The Account Examiner Intern provides assistance to professional financial auditors conducting on-site financial audits and compliance examinations of state agencies, colleges, school boards, and local governmental entities. Internships are open to individuals currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and have completed their sophomore year of college.

Internships are considered a conditional, temporary appointment; therefore, interns are not eligible for paid leave (sick or annual), paid State holidays, health insurance coverage, or participation in the State’s retirement plan. Additionally, under the rules of the State Merit System interns do not serve a probationary period and are not permanent state employees.

Compensation
Interns are compensated on an hourly basis. The rate of pay is based upon the number of college credit hours completed.

  1. At least 60 hours but less than 90 hours = $15.20 / hour
  2. At least 90 hours = $15.97 / hour

Work Hours
This position is Monday – Friday and is part-time. The official office hours of the Department are 7:45 – 4:45. Intern work schedules vary and are affected by multiple factors, including availability of work, examiner work schedule, entity work hours etc… 

Travel
Interns work with professional auditors who spend the majority of their work time at the auditee’s location; therefore interns are expected to travel to the audit site as well. The assigned audit site can be as far as 60 to 70 miles from the intern’s work base. Therefore, extensive daily travel may be required. Travel is in personal vehicles; however, the employee is reimbursed based on the mileage both to and from the audit site.
