The Accounts Examiner I position is the entry-level position in the Department for individuals with a degree in Accounting. This is a professional auditing position performing on-site financial audits and compliance examinations of state agencies, colleges, school boards, and local governmental entities.
Compensation
The starting base salary is $55,375.20. The salary can vary depending on other factors such as professional certifications such as the CPA or CFE and relevant work experience. While the starting base salary is $55,375.20 the total job value with all the fringe benefits is illustrated below.
Work Hours
This position is Monday – Friday, 8 hours a day. The official office hours of the Department are 7:45 – 4:45. Employees may begin work as early as 7 am and may leave work as early as 4 pm. Employees are required to work 8 hours a day and may take either a 30-minute lunch break or a 1-hour lunch break.
Travel
Employees spend the majority of their work time at the auditee’s location. This will require daily travel by employees to the audit site. The assigned audit site can be as far as 60 to 70 miles from the employee’s work base. Therefore, extensive daily travel is required. Overnight travel is very minimal. Employees do travel in their personal vehicles; however, the employee is reimbursed based on the mileage both to and from the audit site.

Upward Progression
Employees in the Accounts Examiner I job classification are eligible to be considered for promotion to an Accounts Examiner II after 18-months of service as an Accounts Examiner I. Upon promotion to an Accounts Examiner II the employee will receive a 5% promotional salary increase and the serve another probationary period of 6 months. Upon successful completion of this probationary period the employee will be eligible for a salary increase of either 2.5% or 5%.
