The Department offers incentives for employees who attain professional certifications as a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
The Certified Fraud Examiner credential is offered by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. This credential provides employees with training and resources to build and maintain expertise and best practices in the field of fraud. Employees in the Accounts Examiner series and Compliance Examiner series are eligible for a one-time monetary bonus of $1,500 for attaining this professional credential.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
The Department encourages employees who qualify for the Certified Public Accountant credential to attain the certification through the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy. The Department provides up to ten (10) days of paid leave to prepare for and complete the four (4) examinations required to attain this credential. Additionally, a monetary bonus of $3,000 is provided to employees who pass all four (4) parts of the CPA.
Continuing Education
All audit personnel shall receive at least 80 hours of continuing education and training every two years, with a minimum of 20 hours in a one-year period of the two-year period. The Department facilitates access to various training programs, seminars, lectures, presentations and other training opportunities to continue to develop the professional development of audit personnel.
